Tips On How To Edit

For the first part of mentorship today, the mentees got some tips on how to edit pictures. There were some additional notes they got to take on how to improve an edit, correct color, and decide what pictures will make the cut. Once they were done with this workshop, they got a chance to finish their edits from the Painting With Seniors workshop from last Thursday.

For the second part of mentorship today, the mentees got to learn about storytelling from Rebecca. She explained how showing more detail within your story can help to improve your readers’ experience. This also connects to editing and photos since this is a visual aspect which shows someone what the story was all about. The mentees wrote a short story of their own experiences then shared with a partner to exchange some advice. After this they got a chance to share with the whole group the creative stories they wrote!

Yesterday we partnered with the Quinn Center for their painting project for seniors. The mentees came to put their photography skills into practice, and we can’t wait to see the photos they captured! After the photos were taken, some of the mentees got to join in on the fun with some local seniors to paint some beautiful artwork, which was led by Dana from Paint On Purpose.

We invited Kameka, CEO of The Full Story Resume Writing Services, back to lead another virtual workshop to our new group of mentees. We had the honor of her presenting to our Spring mentees back in April. Our mentees had the opportunity to learn how to write a resumé, and learned tips and tricks on what recruiters look for in a resumé.

Our mentees played an ice breaker, took notes, asked questions, and now have some knowledge on how to write a resumé! Follow along @thefirehousedream to see their progress, and live in action workshop behind the scenes.

During this workshop our mentees were introduced to the 3 different ways to control light…Aperture, ISO, and Shutter. After Jasmine, the co-founder and executive director, led this workshop, our mentees went outside to put all that they learned to the test. They worked in groups of two, discussing and sharing which settings worked best for their photos. Not only did this test their knowledge, it was also a team building exercise. We are so proud of our mentees for working together and being confident in what they learned.
