Marketing is a big part of how brands and businesses take off. For the first day of week 6, Lu’Cretia, our Creative Project Manager and mentor to lead this workshop. Lu’Cretia went over all the basics of marketing. She engaged in a conversation with our mentees about what marketing is & what goes into it. She also taught them how to create ads for various businesses, all while staying on track with branding styles, colors, and fonts. It was fascinating to see our mentees work together as a team to create their ads for TFD.

Content Creating & Collaboration

Today in mentorship, TFD was visited by Mylene to discuss content creating, as well as collaboration with other brands. Mylene is an interior designer who also has a big presence on social media. She talked with our mentees about various aspects of creating content. For example, having pillars of what your brand stands for, how to entice your audience, storytelling, and how to use things like hashtags to help build your brand. When it comes to the pillars of a brand, you always want to stay true to those things and to bring them out in every aspect of what you do. Another key point Mylene discussed was building community instead of competition and ways to do that. She went over things like hashtags either created by you or others and connecting with other brands this way. Mylene also shared that when giving a pitch, you want to keep it short and sweet, getting to the point and making connections the best you can while still being captivating. Our mentees learned a lot and we are grateful to have Mylene teach us these things!

Today in mentorship, our mentees learned what a brand really is from Deon Bonaparte. He explained that when creating a brand, you give the consumer a gut feeling, which then will create trust, which ultimately goes back around to what the brand is. They discussed the differences between brands and how the actions they take can impact multiple aspects of that specific brand. They also talked about what they think is the most important part of a brand; People, processes, or product. Deon had a lot of great things to share with the group and the mentees learned a lot today about what it really takes for a brand to be successful.

BRAND POSITIONING WORKSHOP

Today our friend and board member, Deon, led us through a workshop called Brand Positioning. It was an amazing workshop where our interns got to hear from someone who owns a Brand Agency, and to hear his thoughts on what it means to position our brands in a way that stands out!

Thanks so much Deon for leading us through your workshop!
