November Food Distribution

Saturday morning Impact Church hosted their monthly Food Distribution held at God’s Heritage Full Gospel Church in Maywood. The two churches come together every third Saturday of the month to provide for families in the community and to pray over those who choose to be prayed over. For each of these distributions, it is a drive-up event to keep everyone safe and distanced due to the pandemic. This month they had a great turn out, with cars lined up around the block. There was plenty of food to be given, like cereal, cookies, snacks, different meats, and even a turkey for Thanksgiving! Within 30 minutes we had given out most of the food and everyone was so happy to help those in need and make a positive impact in their community. We are so grateful for these two churches and to partner with them to document a great event such as this one. TFD will be joining them for next month’s Food Distribution as well as the upcoming Toy Drive!

Next Steps, New Development

In mentorship this past Wednesday, our mentees have taken additional steps towards completing their brands. They have awakened their creative senses and are working towards their visions. The mentees have learned all of the necessary skills in order to complete their brand’s tasks. They are highly motivated and show new determination and persistence. We are so excited for our young adults and the growth they have shown, as well as the wonderful ideas they have come up with. These last few weeks have been filled with excitement and imagination. We are loving every second of it and are having a blast guiding our mentees through a thrilling experience like this! Our mentees can’t wait to share what they are doing and show everything they have learned! Their next steps will be shared soon!

Post-Production Video Editing

Jeremy led another workshop for our mentees on Monday for the post-production of film. Last month our mentees filmed a few Maywood residents to highlight their stories and they are now working on editing the video they took. Jeremy shared advice on different aspects of this process with things like keeping all of your files organized, different editing apps, cutting and pasting parts of video together, and learning where to separate video to have the correct pacing. They all took time to go through piece by piece, checking all camera angles as well as separating the audio from video. A tip Jeremy also shared is to always check your work before delivering to a client. It is important to watch the video from beginning to end to make sure everything was done smoothly and correctly. Our mentees got a great start on their editing and we can’t wait to see the finished product they created!

Branding, Sketches, Mood Boards And More!

After our Breathwork Workshop, this past Saturday, our mentees began to work more on their own brands. They started to create mood boards and sketch out different designs that will appear within their brand. Some of our mentees are working on businesses such as clothing lines, stickers, baking, and so much more! Those who want to create clothing lines learned about different materials that can be used, how they compare, and different ways of printing photos or words onto a piece of clothing. There are various ways branding can be done, all with a different finish, so this was a great learning experience. Some mentees sketched out different designs for stickers and also planned out some other great content!

There is still so much to be done, like website creation and ordering/making the products that will be featured in these brands. Our mentees have made a lot of progress and we are so proud of how far they have come in this short period of time. We are so excited to see how everything turns out and are here to support our mentees every step of the way!

Breathwork

Our mentees were visited by Kathy Khang today for a workshop on breathwork. Breathwork refers to techniques and exercises for breathing. It is meant to help improve physical, mental, and spiritual well-being by relieving stress, opening the heart & mind, and help to promote gratitude and clarity. Kathy taught our mentees a variety of breathing exercises and helped our mentees to clear out their mind and focus on being in the moment. They focused on their breathing, thoughts, actions, and more. It was a peaceful experience and our mentees now have some additional tools to care for their mental health. It is important to take time to focus on the little things and appreciate those moments.
